February Character Development Theme: Honesty

Dear parents and/or guardians…

HONESTY MEANS TELLING THE TRUTH. IF WE ARE HONEST, PEOPLE WILL KNOW THAT THEY CAN BELIEVE WHAT WE TELL THEM. IF WE LIE AND ARE NOT HONEST, PEOPLE WILL NOT KNOW THAT THEY CAN TRUST US.

This month’s lesson is honesty. We are learning how honesty not only builds strong relationships between people, but also helps us become stronger people ourselves. Students are expected to practice honesty (with kindness!) by telling the truth to their peers in class and at school, as well as at home

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

  • Be honest with your children (to the extent that it is age-appropriate for them).
  • Do not get into the habit of telling your child ‘white lies,’ even if it is to smooth over an issue. When your children realize you do this, they will be left with the impression that honesty is optional.
  • Discuss with your children the importance of honesty, even on small issues, for building trust in relationships.
