April Character Development Theme: Nutrition

Dear parents and/or guardians…

NUTRITION IS THE NOURISHMENT WE GET FROM THE FOOD WE EAT. GOOD NUTRITION GIVES YOU THE RIGHT AMOUNTS OF THE THINGS YOU NEED TO KEEP YOUR BODY HEALTHY.

This month we are learning about nutrition. Your support is critical for your child developing a healthy relationship with food, since many of their meals will come from home and are decided by the food you buy. We understand that you have a busy schedule, and it is not always easy to put healthy, kid-friendly food on the table; however, the eating habits they develop as children will follow them throughout their lives – you owe it to their futures to help them make the best choices possible.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

  • Encourage your children to try new foods. One great way of doing this is by having them choose a new meal for the family to try and then allowing them to help with the child safe parts of the preparation.
  • Cut back on junk food as a family
  • Pay special attention to what they drink. Soda, juice, and other sugary beverages should be considered the same as eating a cookie – and you wouldn’t let them eat a cookie with every single meal and snack!
